Specific
Accomplishments
Over the years, Master Florists Association members have benefited from the
efforts of their association in innumerable areas. Some examples of these
successful efforts are:
- Agreement with funeral directors and cemetery managers on tasteful
delivery and placement of floral pieces.
- Curtailment of the practice by some non-member florists of picking up and
re-using floral pieces from cemeteries.
- Elimination of churches’ practice of making wedding flowers available to
parishioners through discussions with the churches.
- Volunteering time for worthy causes such as “Daffodil Days" and the
“Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk” for the American Cancer Society.
- Development of an Internship Program with students from the Horticultural
Department at Merritt College
-
A monthly newsletter with a message from the
president, important announcements, a calendar of events, industry news,
member profiles, and “Master Florists Specials” offered to members from our
fellow wholesale members
-
Creation of an Internship Program with
students of the Horticultural Department of Merritt College, offering
them an opportunity to work at one of our member retail shops and gain
experience while earning class credit at the same time
-
Launching of our website
where you can find up-to-date information on upcoming association and
industry-related events. Soon, there will be a “job listings” section added

Work in Progress
The Board of Directors is currently working with our Educational Advisor in
establishing a Certification Program where interested florists are required to
pass a written exam and several other tests in order to become a “Certified
Master Florist Designer.”
They are also working on publishing a “Holiday Preparedness Manual” with
helpful information aimed at providing guidance to florists just getting into
the business. Included will be tips on advance preparation of holiday
containers, delivery, sales, etc.
